Review: Dinair Airbrush and Makeup

Hello Ladies!! I’m super excited to review this product. I’ve been dying, dying I tell you, to get my hands on it. I spent probably 6 months trying to make my mind up about buying it and I finally broke down. I’m talking about a Dinair airbrush kit!

I got my Dinair Foundation Deluxe Kit way back in May, for Mother’s Day. I wanted to give myself plenty of time to use it, before I reviewed it. I don’t want my reviews to be anything short of honest and accurate, and when we’re talking about a product that costs $200, I want to be able to stand behind what I tell you.

So let’s get to it. You all probably have seen Dinair, whether it be on Youtube or Makeup Alley, or somewhere else. If you’re at all familiar with airbrushing, Dinair has probably come up. I initially became interested in airbrushing after staying up too late one night and getting sucked into an infomercial for Luminess. After doing my requisite research into Luminess, I decided that my money would be better spent elsewhere. So of course, I googled airbrushing and voila there was Dinair. And me being the product junkie that I am, I wanted it….bad. So fast forward to Mother’s Day, and I got it.

So on to the good stuff, the actual review. The compressor really is tiny. It’s not exactly quiet, but it isn’t loud either. The gun (airbrush) is just your typical airbrush, nothing spectacular to say about it. I used the entire kit as soon as I got it, I airbrushed my foundation, blush, bronzer and concealer. The first time I did it, I was impressed but not completely sold. The airbrush makeup seemed to accentuate the fine lines under my eyes, and large pores on my nose. So of course, I talked to a friend of mine who also has a Dinair system, and I talked to Dinair. To solve the problem I use eye primer under my eyes, and on my nose before airbrushing. It was recommended to me to use the Moist & Dewy that came in my kit, which also works. I use the ELF eyelid primer, and since it’s only $1 it’s definitely more cost effective then the Moist & Dewy.

The Dinair foundation really does make my skin look flawless, but it doesn’t look like I have makeup on at all. The coverage starts sheer, but can be layered to full. With every layer of foundation you spray, your skin imperfections just blur and eventually disappear. I watched every single Youtube video I could find about Dinair and airbrushing makeup in general before I ordered my kit, so I didn’t find it difficult at all. If you’re thinking about buying an airbrush, I strongly recommend you do the same. Going from regular foundation or mineral foundation to airbrushing is a huge change, and the more you understand it, the better the results will be.

I can honestly say that I’ve loved every single item that I’ve tried from Dinair; foundation, blush, bronzer, Moist & Dewy, shimmer colors (highlighters), etc. Everything can be used for more then one application; foundation for concealer or contour, blush for lipstick or eyeshadow, shimmer colors for highlighters or eyeshadows, etc.

The prices for the actual makeup are actually really affordable. The smallest size you can buy of anything is ¼ oz., which ranges in price from $8-$18 depending on what kind of makeup it is. The ¼ oz. foundation lasts about a month give or take. I mix two colors (vanilla & light golden beige) for my perfect foundation color, so it’s lasts me about 1 ½-2 months. The ¼ oz. size of blush will probably last me 4-5 months.

I realize how expensive the initial investment is to get an airbrush, Dinair being one of the cheapest you can buy. But for me, it was well worth it. I never have to worry about a line of demarcation again, or washing my face brushes weekly to make sure I’m not rubbing bacteria into my skin, or how my foundation will photograph (beautifully btw), or my makeup melting or rubbing off. I will say I have yet to test the claim that Dinair makes about it’s foundation lasting 24 hours. I’m usually washing my makeup off within 8-10 hours of application. It definitely has better staying power than anything else I’ve ever used.

With all those positive things being said, I have to be 100% honest with you ladies. I had the absolute worst customer service experience of my life with Dinair. After speaking with a lady at Dinair about my problem with fine lines and pores being accentuated, I have sent 3 separate messages through their website, about 3 separate things, and have yet to get a response to a single one. The first message I sent to them was shortly after I ordered, so it’s been at least 2 months. I have never been so disappointed in a companies customer service as I have been with Dinair. I’ve never been completely ignored by a company either. If someone over at Dinair responds to me, I’d still be happy to have the situation handled in a professional and courteous manner…..I won’t hold my breath.

So ladies, have your tried Dinair, or any airbrush?

If you have any questions about the kit or makeup, or anything airbrushing related leave me a comment and I’ll either post about it, or try to answer it here. J

The kit sounds pretty amazing. I've never tried airbrushing before but I've been tempted to have it done. I'll keep my mind open about the Dinair for sometime in the future. Too bad about the yucky customer service though!!

I also have the dinair airbrush and i agree abt the lines and pores. I have oily skin so the moist and dewy i don't use but need to know of a good primer to use to help with the pores because i heard that some primers don't work well with the foundation since it is water base. Other than that it works well and coverage is good.

Hey Val-
I tried a couple primes with the Dinair foundation, but haven't found one that works well. For some reason they seem to make the makeup rub off. :( The ELF eye primer has been the best thing I've tried so far.

I just got my Dinair last week and I agree 100% with everything you said about it! I'm 47 and normally do not wear foundation due to it making e feel like I look older. Not the case with Dinair Airbrush.. I look YOUNGER! Its awesome in so many ways.

Thanks for the excellent review and every one needs to have this product. It will change the way you view makeup application. It takes half the time to apply and the look is far better than any other liquid foundation. :-)

I wanted to add, I have had excellent service with Dinair. Just pick up the phone and call them on their 800 number! Perhaps the email is not functioning well or the person in charge of it has a problem. Call them to communicate- fast, polite answers in minutes, even on a Sunday!

Try using a silicone-free primer on your face if you find the make up is getting into your fine lines/wrinkles. Silicone based primers won't work when your airbrush foundation is waterbased like dinairs. I do agree about the customer service. My order was shipped out 5 days later than promised and I heard a different excuse every day. The product is really good though and the foundation does look flawless. The videos are very informative and helpfull. I'm very happy with my dinair!

Well, if the email person was having a problem last year, they must still be having it. I got my kit several months ago (March 2012). I also watched and read everything available before I gave in and ordered. I'm 43 and I have major problems with the makeup accentuating fine lines and pores. I swear, I didn't feel old until I started using it! Never saw my pores before!

So I've tried all kinds of different procedures, primers (including Dinair's expensive line filler), different moisturizers, no moisturizer, Dinar's concealer, etc. Nothing is working out so I'm tempted to just give up and go back to my mineral makeup. If I could get some help from the company, maybe it would help, but I think they're ignoring us because they don't have an answer. I live in LA, so I've even visited the "shop." The girls there sprayed a super-thick layer of foundation, added large amounts of their concealer and called it good. ... Not good!

Hey Ladies-
To update a little, I still have never gotten a response from anyone at Dinair. I have also ordered makeup twice, and had bad experiences with how long it took them to ship it out. I had to call about one of my orders, a week after the order was placed, to get it shipped. I have to say, I like the products very much, but the customer service is a joke, at least from what I've experienced.

tiffbs- I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. I've found that using a moisturizer that leaves your skin dewy really helps with the accentuated pores problem. I like Garnier Fructis Dark Spot Corrector. The ELF Eye primer is the only solution I've found to the fine lines around my eyes. I couldn't be happier about how my makeup looks now.

I've actually stopped ordering my makeup from Dinair, for the time being, and will post about what I'm using now soon!

Hey everybody. I don't own the kit personally but I know the woman at my salon and everytime I go in for my hair she also does my makeup with it. I love the coverage it gives so I'm heavily debating on buying my own for everyday use.

She let me try using it myself one day and I also got the fine lines problem you guys were having. She corrected me however and taught me that you need to hold the skin taut before applying the airbrush makeup anywhere where you have fine lines are larger pores. Don't stretch the skin, just slightly pull it tight. Primer helps as well obviously like you said.

Dont buy one - I got a faulty product sent & they wont honor warranty. Wont even respond. Customer service is so bad.

Might be a good product if it worked... or if they bothered to help customers AT ALL

Dinair customer service is a joke. I placed my order and noticed that there was a mistake on the website (when I selected the european plug it came up as Japanese on the confirmation. So I sent them an e-mail to make sure I got the right one and inform them of the bug. When I hadn't received an answer the next day, I sent another e-mail. Still no answer. So I contacted them on live chat, and they said they would make sure I got the right one.. Four days later I received an answer to one of my e-mails, saying that the japanese and european plug were the same. It took almost a month for me to get the package (for 62 dollars in shipping fees i expect faster shipping) and they managed to send me the japanese plug ( which definitely isn't the same as the european one) When I complained there was no apology and they used the same slow shipping method to send me the correct one. So all in all it took me two months from I placed the order until I could try the system. As for the make up, I too have massive problems with pores and fine lines being accentuated. I am still trying different methods, but my patience is running thin.

I've only recently started using Dinair and have the same problem with the fine lines in the corners of my eyes and with my pores showing. After looking at YouTube videos by makeup artists, I finally figured out that if you work the foundation "into" the lines or pores either with the flat side of a concealer brush or pull the area everso gently to smooth it out some, then back the airbrush further away (more than the 6") from those areas and spray everso lightly with foundation, then let dry, repeat this several times and it tends to not emphasize the lines and pores so much.
The idea I got was to not necessarily "fill" the lines and pores but to give the inner surfaces of them an equal layer to reduce shadows within them.

This works pretty well for me, I hope it helps you too.

I know this is an older post but thought I would add my thoughts anyway. When I first started using dinair I also felt it made my pores appear larger & accented my fine lines. I'm combo/oily so moist & dewy, even the smallest amount was a no go. I also found that the glamour rubs off with the lightest of touch and was to chalky. After experimenting with OCC, Kett and Dinair paramedical I have found what works. If I use the OCC primer with the Dinair paramedical it's magic! It looks like real skin, not chalky nor overly dewy and stays in place all day.

I came across this site by accident but glad I did. Learned a few things about the Dinair I've been using for about a year now. First, I'm not young ladies but I'm not over the hill yet either. I do have a few lines around my eyes and pore issues too. The ONLY primer I've found that works with Dinair Glamour and makes it last all day without the line & pore issues for me is: "Natural Born Cosmetics" brand. However, the only place to get it is a website based in Chantilly, VA. I can't mention and WON'T the actual website because --- The owner is a HATEFUL IGNORANT WITCH! Trust me, I'm being gracious too. She got very ignorant and childish with me over a website issue I had there. I wouldn't use her crap now if she PAID ME. So buyer beware, her customer service STINKS too. They also mess up what you order from time to time and send the wrong product. I'm on the lookout for a new primer to use with Dinair now. It's of course an experience that happened to me so good luck with what you decide to do about this exclusive primer brand.

Ive been using a couple different brands of airbrush foundation and always come back to the same problem, EVERY SINGLE LITTLE hair is so magnified !! its ridiculous, i don't feel i should have to remove my whole face of hair just to get a good result! does anyone experience this with dinair?? the foundation just sticks to the hairs and looks terrible!! if i could fix this one problem it would be great!!

Here's my 2 cents worth, from a woman that has a few lines too....Dinair makes a little known product called Instant Line Filler. It was recommended by one of their distributors, It smooths the lines when applied before your foundation. Dinair has another product I like too, it's called Perfect Skin. Bother are great, use the same way.
Also, I don't have any customer service issues with their distributor, Wholesale Salon Products Inc., they have been great, less expensive too! I found them on Amazon.,

I also use the Dinair Perfect Skin. Dinair seems to be out of stock on it a lot so I've been buying from Wholesale Salon Products too, I just go to their website airbrushdeals.com. Good prices and they are speedy shippers too.

I just recently tried the Tickled Pink Airbrush system. I had my makeup done at Paul Mitchell beauty school for our engagement pictures and it was fabulous! They were able to cover up my birthmark which is red and I really looked fabulous. I looked up the company and found they sell on Amazon. I ordered my kit and was surprised it even came with a moisturizer which I love and a waterproofer for over the application. I got the whole thing for about the cost of a makeup session with a makeup artist! I am planning on doing my own makeup for my wedding day as well as my maid of honor.

Just tried Dinair today. I'm 40 y/o and I have hereditary dark circles an lines under my eyes I like all of the videos they have out, but wish they concentrated a little more on my issues. I know I can't be the only one. I have combo skin so I HAVE to have a moisturizer. I used my moisturizer and Dinair's concealer and it helped some with showing my lines. I used my ring finger to smooth it in around my problem areas and then used the foundation. After awhile, the make up started to settle in my creases though. I will be trying some primers and hopefully those will help. Thank you for all of the helpful tips that y'all gave in your comments. I really dont want my money to go to waste.
