The title of this post says it all.....Review: TRESemme Naturals Radiant Volume Shampoo & Conditioner. Let's start with how TRESemme describes the product line, and these two products...

Okay now let's get on with the actual review. As you all know by now, I am not a fan of shampoo, as it dries my hair out and leads to frizz. However, I thought in fairness to the line, I'd buy both products and try them together, to get accurate results. I also made sure not to tweak anything else in my routine, so I'd know how good or bad the products would work.

So here it is, TRESemme Naturals Radiant Volume Shampoo: Oddly enough I liked it, I didn't love it, but it was pretty good. It did dry my hair out a little, as any shampoo would. However, it didn't leave my hair feeling like straw, but it certainly felt clean. The smell is really nice, not overpowering or chemically, just a nice sweet smell. They're supposed to have sweet orange extract in them, so I thought it would smell orangey. It didn't. It smells good, so that's always a bonus.

TRESemme Naturals Radiant Volume Conditioner: This smells really good, the shampoo and conditioner have the same scent, but I usually find that conditioners smell more strongly than shampoo. Maybe it's just me? This is a decent drug-store, silicone-free conditioner. It's not immensely moisturizing, but it has fantastic slip and it makes detangling a breeze. For someone with fine hair, like myself, this would be a great spring/summer conditioner. In the winter it wouldn't provide enough moisture though. If you have thicker or coarse hair this would make a great cowash! It's a little bit thicker than Suave Naturals, and in my opinion provides slightly better moisturization. When I rinsed this out of my hair at the end of my shower, my hair still felt soft and slippery in a way. I would repurchase this, if for nothing else, it provides slip and detangling, I can get it on the ground, it smells good, and comes in a big 25 oz. bottle. I have a family of 4, so we go through hair products pretty quickly.

All in all, these are good drugstore options for any CG's out there, or someone just looking to use gentler shampoo and silicone free conditioner.

Favorite products of the moment: March

Hey gals, it's once again time to talk about my current love affairs with my products. I lied when I said I could be monogamous with them, they're all so unique and useful. Why should a girl have to stick with just one?

Hair Products
  • DevaCurl & DevaCare No-Poo: That's right, I still love it, and I still use it almost daily. On days my hair is feeling a little dry, I'll grab the DevaCare. If my hair feels fine, I grab the DevaCurl. I cannot say enough about how much I love this stuff, it's moisturizing on it's own, so most of the time I don't need a rinse-out conditioner.
  • Jessicurl Too Shea!! Conditioner: This is an amazing conditioner, it's rich and creamy. It provides immediate slip and moisture. I buy it in the Island Fantasy scent, and it's like heaven in my shower. It's packs enough punch to be used as a deep treatment, but it's actually a rinse-out. L-O-V-E
  • Tigi Oatmeal & Honey Conditioner: I have porous hair, and it loves protein. This is a great rinse-out to give your hair a hit of protein when you need it. It's rich and smells yummy. I'll review it in-depth soon!
  • Volumax Styling Glaze: This has a great light to medium hold, makes my hair shiny and keeps the frizz at bay. I will also be reviewing this soon!
  • Kinky-Curly Curling Custard: Another hardcore love affair, this is awesome. I love that it's a natural product, it smells delicious, and it works wonders on my locks. This is another product that I just cannot say enough about, you have to try it for yourself. I know it seems pricey, but a little goes a long way and it lasts forever. I had an 8oz. tub for the better part of 6 months.
Skincare
  • Proactiv 3-Step System: I love this, I don't understand why I see such mixed reviews on it. I know it can be quite drying, but if you follow it with a good moisturizer you'll be fine. This has absolutely made my skin better in numerous ways: no pimples, my overall skin is smoother, my pores are smaller, and the list goes on...
  • Coconut Oil: This is a fantastic moisturizer. It makes my skin glow, it's dirt cheap, and it's easy to find. If you shop at Wal-Mart, it's next to the cooking oils, since it's also used for cooking with. Just make sure it says 100% pure coconut oil. This is also great at removing eye makeup, and it's a fantastic deep treatment for hair.

Kinky-Curly Curling Custard Review: Wow, it's a miracle!

Hello ladies, I’m back! This time we’re back to discussing our hair, and we’re talking about a product that I swear has a cult following; Kinky-Curly Curling Custard! This product is completely fabulous, and I use it everyday. It’s natural, it’s moisturizing, and it delivers results. Don’t take just my word for it, it’s won the Best of the Best Award on Naturally Curly.

So let’s talk about what’s in it, and what isn’t before we get on to the review. Kinky-Curly Curling Custard is protein-free, paraben-free, silicone-free, and glycerin-free. It’s also organic, so it’s a product that you can feel good about putting on your hair, or your children’s hair. I’d use it on my gorgeous curly son if he would ever let me fix his hair, alas he won’t so I’ve stopped trying. The Curling Custard is loaded with humectants, so if your hair is sensitive to humectants like aloe or agave nectar, this isn’t going to be a product for you. However, my hair loves humectants year-round, and KCCC. Yeah!

To catch you up on my hair type: I have a mix of 2b, 3a and 3b curls. If you aren’t familiar with hair typing on Naturally Curly, that basically means I have some sections of hair that are wavy and some sections that are loose curls, and a few tight curls. My hair texture is medium, so it’s pretty soft. It’s relatively porous, from years of heat styling and coloring, however since I henna’d, my porosity has changed a little.

I originally tried Kinky-Curly Curling Custard back in September of last year, and I loved it the first time I used it. However, as I’ve mentioned before, a lot of products are sent to me to review for you ladies and my Examiner page, so I tend to forget a few of my loves from time to time. So, about 2 months ago I decided to pull the Curling Custard back out and give it a go. Just like I remembered, my hair + KCCC= L♥ve! Like I’ve mentioned about a million times already, curly hair needs moisture to thrive. If your curls are dry or simply aren’t getting adequate moisture they’ll never look as great as they could. I deep condition my hair once a week at the very least. Since I’ve gone modified CG, my hair is in the best shape of my life, and I probably don’t need to deep condition as often as I do, but I want to make sure that I keep the health of my hair where it is right now.

Kinky-Curly Curling Custard probably has the strangest consistency of any product that I’ve ever encountered. It’s sort of like snot, and I know that sounds gross, but it isn’t at all. It smells edible almost, which I love. I have a huge issue with funky product smells. If a product smells bad, I won’t put it in my hair. I’ve heard the smell described as vanilla cake, but I don’t know what they scent it with. Anyway, back to the texture. It’s weird to say the least, it isn’t like a typical hair gel at all. It comes in a tub, and if you dip your finger in it, it will hardly pick any product up. This is actually a great thing, as the product is super concentrated, so a tiny amount goes a long way, regardless of your hair type.

The Curling Custard gives me super shiny, bouncy, defined curls. I know a lot of curlies use a hard-hold gel on top of it, but my curl pattern is strong enough on it’s own so I don’t need anything else. I've heard some of the ladies on Naturally Curly say it can take a long time to dry, this is compounded if you use products with it that contain ingredients that interact with the Custard. My hair is porous, so it dries pretty fast, and the Curling Custard doesn’t really affect my drying time. However, the Curling Custard doesn't always play well with others.

I can’t say enough about this product, and I’m sure if I sat here long enough I could think of a ton more to say about it. However, I think this post is long enough already. Try Kinky Curly Curling Custard, it stands up to the hype!
